Crawfish pie, me-o, my-o

Spring is ready to be sprung and that means only one thing here in Louisiana-IT'S CRAWFISH TIME. Follette Pottery will be celebrating all month. We will have plenty of Libby's crawfish pottery, crawfish jelly and something crawfish to eat every Saturday in March. Bring your appetite. We will be serving our favorite crawfish receipes.

Pecan Turtles and Pralines

Your favorite chocolate treats are back!! This time they are Easter eggs. We have a fresh batch of 2 oz. chocolate turtle eggs and southern pralines just in time for Easter. We would love to tell you exactly how good they are, how creamy and chocolate-y with those perfectly roasted pecans and ooie-gooie caramel are, but that would spoil the surprise.

THE NOSE "KNOWS"

Losing your glasses is always a pain, especially if you are one of us who is optically challenged. We just received the perfect solution--- the Picasso Nose, or maybe the Muzeum cat or even the Fish.

These fun little eyeglass holders stay in the same place day after day waiting for you to entrust them with your specs. Simplify your life and add a little fun at the same time. I'll bet you "NOSE" someone who needs one right now ! ! !

FOLLETTE'S WINO-DEVINO

Kent had a large order for Flambeaux wine goblets so he made some extra's. They are beautiful. The colors range from blues (right) to earth tones. He doesn't make them very often, so if you are contemplating relaxing on the deck or patio with your favorite vino, hurry on in. Our favorite weather will be here very soon. If it doesn't get here soon, you can always drink inside.

BASIC SPIRIT PEWTER

I have looked at this wonderful collection at market many times and this time was the charm. I ORDERED ! ! ! It arrived last week and is better than I even remembered. The measuring spoons are definitely my favorite. They come in fish, bug, twig and bird motifs and the hanger is included. Also included are pewter boxes with a fluer-de-lis' on the cover and --surprise--a pretty fleur-de-lis pendant tucked inside all for only $21.

Follette Loves to Take Care of Our PANDORA Customers

Thank you to all our valued Pandora customers.

We will begin our fourth year as Pandora dealers next month. We have met a lot of wonderful people during this time. We love Pandora as much as you do. Beginning in April or May we will become silver dealers. Silver dealers carry all the charms but also rings, earrinigs, and necklaces. Stay tuned. We are VERY excited about this.

At Follette Pottery we are interested in helping you take care of your Pandora bracelet. We suggest that in addition to washing your bracelet in soap and warm water once a week that you bring it to us and we will clean it for you in our steel shot tumbler at no charge. Pandora suggests cleaning your bracelet in a tumbler every 3-4 months.

When you come by the shop to have your bracelet cleaned ask us about the new catalogs with pictures of the latest charms and the "silver match". They just arrived last week.

Over the years (about the last 20) we have carried Cindy Pacileo's Little Guys. She just gets better witih time. (notice I didn't say age, Cindy) We had birds in the fall, angels in the winter and now we have pets and "Birthday Guys" for spring.

In the Breeze
In the Breeze is a line of colorful, exciting windsocks, flags and ground spinners. Follette Pottery is officially declaring SPRING IN PEA RIDGE. Enough of this blah weather. It can be any temperature you want INSIDE !!!! We suggest these terrific garden spikes in your favorite inside planters. They can be moved outside anytime you are ready. Our good friend and fabulous scuptor - Don Drumm - teamed up with Cricket Forge to create these spikes that don't look anything like the things you find in the big box stores but at a very reasonable price.

Recipe:
"Cate Can't Stop That Loving Feeling Black Berry and Sticky Bun Ice Cream Bread"
I threw this recipe together for a New Year's Eve dinner party that I threw. It came out fantastic, which is what I love about the ice cream bread recipe, it's so easy to change and make something new and awesome.

1 Pint Ben and Jerry's Cinnamon Bun Ice Cream
1 1/2 Cup self rising flour

1 package frozen blackberries
1/2 cup white wine
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar

Mix defrosted ice cream and flour together. Pour into Follette Ice Cream Bread Dish. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

In medium saucepan, combine blackberries, wine, cinnamon, and sugar. Stir frequently over medium heat until warm and gooey.

Dump blackberry compote over icecream bread and add whip cream. Eat.

Karg Art Glass

Although Rolin Karg spent the first part of his career as an industrial engineer, photographer, potter and woodworker before becoming a full time glass artist in 1983, he has quickly gained notoriety for his contribution to the world of glass art. Using many layers of dichroic glass and bold colors, he crafts amazing works of art. We are proud to introduce his latest creations --dichroic glass pendants. Hey look! We are on TV!

Yes, it was worth getting up 2 hours before the roosters to be on the Rick Roe "Made In The Ark-La-Tex " show on KTBS Channel 3 in Shreveport. Kent is a real pro at being in front of an audience and the visit was great for the pottery. We had visitors that very day who had seen the show. Thanks again to Rick and crew for inviting Follette Pottery over for the exposure.

Follette Pottery has made it to the big screen!!

From television to the big screen in the same month. You go, Kent! We received a call one afternoon from a movie producer in the Shreveport area saying he wanted to come see Kent about making pots for a movie. Well, you tell about 8 women in the shop who's coming and they were all speculating about who the stars would be.They ALL offered to deliver the pots. We guessed Brad, George, Johnny, Matt - who was it going to be? Turns out none of them; it is a biblical education movie. That meant no cussing, fussing, or misbehaving on Kent's part while he was making them. Talk about trials and tribulations. We'll let you know about the red carpet !

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

This months recipe is from a wonderful friend we got to know while attending the Pennsylvania Cajun Fest each summer at Campbell Pottery. Kent is the guest cook making huge pots of his now legendary gumbo for several thousand attendees (check out the picture of the the "Pottery Kings - north and south). Rita Uhlman and her husband always come by to see me and add to their pottery collection. They are two of the nicest people I know. Rita brought me an array of recipes so I chose to share this one. Watch for more of Rita's recipes in the following newsletters.

RITA'S BLENDER PIE

1 Follette Pottery pie dish
2 cups of milk
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 stick of butter
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup of flour
1 cup of flaked coconut nutmeg
nutmeg
Add ingredients in order given except nutmeg to blender.
Blend well. Pour into a greased, floured Follette Pottery pie dish. Shake nutmeg on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. *
(Makes it's own bottom crust)
* Check often while cooking. My oven took longer. Libby

Relationships aren't always easy. But, as the pictures show, if cats and dogs can make them work, so can the rest of us. In FRENEMIES we get an inside look at how our furry friends coexist on the same planet--even in the same house.
This little book was just too cute to pass up at the Atlanta market. There is no question about Follette's being a pet friendly shop. It's perfect for the pet lover in all of us. Our Sophie, the store mascot, read it cover to cover the minute they showed up and it has her seal of approval. (all you need is a treat in your pocket to get that, though.)

TOAD HOLLOW FROGS!

    Be careful where you step. The toads are out at Follette's. Kent has gone frog crazy. We have big (huge) frogs, little frogs and all sizes in between. Some croak when you walk past them while others just look at you. We even have one that whistles. They are fun for indoors or out.
   So many people love frogs, I decided to google the symbolic meaning of frogs. Turns out, they deal with: creativity, fertilitiy, luck, cleansing and transformation.
    However, if you are looking for Mr Right, come on out and start kissing. We have quite and array.

There is never enough storage space! These little babies were left over from the former store on I-20. They are light weight, strong and easy to assemble. No bolts, screws or moving parts. The selves are slotted so that dust does not collect on them. Some are 72x36x18 and others are 72x36x24. They are all $30 each/or $25 each when you purchase two or more. RECIPE OF THE MONTH

With tomatoes still plentiful, Kacey decided this was the recipe of the month. For someone who loves tomatoes, cheese and crescent rolls, how could our possible go wrong. We recommend using a Follette Pottery pie dish. Enjoy!

Beth Buske's Tomato Tart

1 tube crescent rolls
1 1/2 cups grated Mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup Mayo (not Miracle Whip)
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
2 medium tomatoes, sliced (homegrown, if possible)
Garlic salt, bread crumbs

1. Spread crescent rolls into a Follette Pottery pie plate to form a crust. Bake for 5 minutes at 400 degrees.
2. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of Mozzarella onto warm crust.
3. In a Follette Pottery mixing bowl, mix mayo, remaining cheeses, and basil.
4. Arrange tomatoes on crust. Spread mayo mixture on top.
5. Sprinkle with a smidge of garlic salt and top with a thin layer of bread crumbs.
6. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes and enjoy!

BIRDIE AND FOULER VISIT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
"STAYCATIONS" are being encouraged across the country this year. Birdie and Fouler, always the patriotic ones, decided to visit the Statue of Liberty. No, not the one in New York City......the one right here at Follette Pottery. She is an "exact" replica constructed by our own Laura Follette Bourgeois (with just the tiniest bit of help from her father, Kent) many years ago when the Follette's hosted a huge Fourth of July party each year.

We at Follette's wish you all a happy 4th and hope your "stacation" includes your favorite pottery, Follette's. of course.

SOMETHING'S FISHY IN FLAMBEAUX
Kent loves to fish. He also likes to make pottery. The newest pot in our line is, what else, a fish bowl. This 12" wide beauty is fired in rich flambeaux colors. It is stunning. They are available in the shop right now at only $60. The really good news is that there are other designs coming soon. Stay tuned.

CENLA TRAVEL GROUP HEADS NORTH
Nancy Richards with Cenla Travel out of Alexandria, Louisiana and about 50 other members made a trip to Follette Pottery on June 23, 2009. The group had a great time touring the facilities and looking around the gift shop. They also really enjoyed feeding the fish in the pond behind the gift shop.

HENRIETTA GLASS IS HERE!

We have a rule at Follette's about who we add to our store. The work, of course, has to be interesting but the rule we really stand by is this--the artist has to love what they are doing. Attitude is everything. We found the epitomy of our rule with Jill Henrietta Davis, also known as Henrietta Glass. She loves what she does and it shows. Her wine stoppers are flying off the shelf. We also have her ring holders and aromatherapy reed diffusers. Each of her products come in a cute little box with a colorful info card for the perfect gift. They are fun, colorful and reasonably priced at only $20 each.

FREE GIFT FROM PANDORA

Kami Chauncy hangs out with us in Pea Ridge

In early June we had a special visitor. Kami, for whom our Kami cup is named, and her family spent time with us touring the pottery, visiting the gift shop and she and her sister enjoyed the pond and feeding the fish. She is pictured decorating her very own Kami cup.

Below is the recipe Kami's mom sent us after their first visit when Kent was so impressed with Kami and her fighting spirit. He decided to make a special cup in her honor and her mothers recipe comes with each cup. It really is the "worlds most dangerous chocolate cake" because you can make it less than 5 minutes. Coffee breaks will never be the same. Enjoy!!

Recipe of the Month
Kami Cake

1 Follette Kami Mug
4 Tbsp. Self Rising Flour
4 Tbsp. Sugar
2 Tbsp. Baking Cocoa
1 Egg
3 Tbsp. Milk
3 Tbsp. Oil
3 Tbsp. Chocolate Chips
Splash of Vanilla
Pinch of Salt

Add dry ingredients to Follette Pottery bowl and Mix well.
Add egg, mix thoroughly. Pour in milk and oil, mix well.
Add chocolate chips and vanilla, and mix. Pour in greased Kami Cup.
Cook in microwave for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. Allow to cool a little.
Tip over onto a plate and enjoy.

PEACH FESTIVAL LIVES ON IN PEA RIDGE
The Peach Festival was a real success. Ricky Skaggs has packed up and gone home, the banners are down, and Beta Sigma Phi has put away their peach ice cream scoops for another year. But..........all is not over. Peaches are still plentiful. So is peach pottery at Follette's. Libby really got busy this year. You know how good that peach cobbler is. Well, it just gets better when it's baked in Follette peach pottery. If you would like a copy of our peachy recipes, just email us at libby@follettepottery.com with a physical address and we will get it on it's way. If you want us to send you some pottery, we can surely do that, too.

Good Bye and Good Luck to Cate

Never one to give up, Cate Davis has reached her goal to be a college graduate and just as we suspected she has gone off to the big city to make a success of herself. I first saw Cate dashing into the Frothy Monkey for her first life sustaining cup of coffee for the day. I commented on how determined she looked and what a cute belt she was wearing. Turns out "determined" was an understatement and she had made the belt herself - that morning. That was almost 3 years ago. Our customers have come to love her as much as we do. We wish her the best. Just live up to your potential old girl and the world is at your feet. Love and kisses.

PS Cate and Libby decided as a "last hurrah" they would paint memorable scenes on the door facing in the new shop. They each took a side and began work about a month ago. Naturally Cate finishied and Libby is still working on her side. Please stop by and see the results.

POTTERY BY THE POUND GOES NATIONAL

May 8th and 9th brought beautiful weather and lots of customers out to the country for the Annual Pottery-By-The-Pound Sale. People come from all over the state to participate but this year brought a special group of ladies from Tampa, Florida. They have relatives (Carla Ward ) in the area so they timed their trip to be here for PBP. One trip to the pottery was not enough. Before the sale ended Saturday afternoon, Brandi Bolick, Tori Piltz and Jaclyn Reed had visited us 4 times. We thought we had a great picture of them, but it was not to be.
Ladies, it was a pleasure. Please come back soon. In the meantime, what the heck did you do with all that pottery??

MORE MUSHROOMS!!

More Schrooms!! Our clay mushrooms have been so popular that we've added more. There is a large selection in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Starting at only $6 each, these toadstools will add so much color to any garden our potted plant.

METHODIST CHILDREN'S HOME JELLY IS HERE ! ! !
For the past few years we have been lucky enough to carry Methodist Children's Home jelly. Jay Hinckley is a master at salsa, jelly and even raising ferns. So far this year we have strawberry preserves, blackberry jelly, mayhaw jelly and something new for us - pepper jelly- while supplies last. They are made at the OWL center from local fruit. A biscuit is not a real biscuit until you top it with some MCH delight. Betcha can't eat just one.

Don't forget the salsa. What could be better on a hot summer evening than a cold margarita and some MCH salsa and chips? If you have a good dip recipe to add to our collection, give us a call.

Peach pottery to celebrate Peach Festival!
Come out to the store during the Peach Festival for a Peach Extravaganza!

We will be serving peach ice tea and peach cookie cobbler in our very own peach pottery!

Peach Pottery makes wonderful wedding presents or a nice serving piece just to remind you where home is. We will have items such as the pie dish, bread & oil platters, salt and pepper shakers, and cheese trays among many other items.

Peach Cookie Cobbler

8 cups of fresh Ruston peaches (or 2-16 oz bags of frozen peaches)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup peach brandy
Cinnamon sugar (1 Tbsp sugar/ 1tsp cinnamon, mixed)
1 pkg slice and bake sugar cookies

Place peaches and 1 cup sugar in a large saucepan. Cook until sugar is dissolved completely.
Continue cooking approx. 5 minutes stirring often. Add peach brandy. Put peaches in a Follette Pottery pie dish (reserving juice). Slice cookies 1/4" thick and place on top of peaches. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over cookies. Bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with ice cream and reserved peach juice as topping.

WHAT'S NEW? ANCIENT GRAFFITI OUTDOOR DECOR!
Just in time for Peach Festival we have received some new outdoor art from Ancient Graffiti.
We have some small and medium sized ants for your garden,although these are promised not to bite. We also have some adorable green stained glass frogs. These frogs can be displayed outdoors, or indoors where you can add a tea light to the inside holder. Other items include a metal die cut dragonfly and lizard.

KENT AND HIS TRAINED FISH
Have relatives in for a summer visit? Have a house full of grandkids?
Need to entertain them? We have the perfect solution. Come visit Kent and feed the fish. Kent has some HUGE catfish that love to eat. He rings the bell and by the time he reaches waters edge there are some big fish just begging to be fed. They swirl and twirl and put on quite a show. They are usually followed by turtles as well as the occasional bream and bass in the mix.

BIRDIE & FOWLER PLAN A VACATION
Birdie came back to the nest with a great idea. "It's summertime Fowler, we need to take a trip," she said. Where do birds go on vacation? The Canary Islands? No, Birdie thought they should visit Fowler's dad's nest, for Father's Day. As she started making plans for the trip, Fowler decided he would arrange the transportation; Birdie hats to fly long distances. Since there are so many good car deals now, Birdie couldn't wait to see what kind of fancy car he came up with. Well, she didn't have to wait long. Take a look. Kent had just finished putting the final touches on his "one-wheel flower extravaganza". Needless to say, Birdie and Fowler will be at the shop when you visit. Don't mention vacation --it's a sore subject--AND ABSOLUTELY DON'T ASK IF SHE GOT A NEW "THUNDERBIRD" CONVERTIBLE.

Mirror on the wall........
Mirror, mirror on the wall seems to be the theme at the shop this month.

We received the most beautiful mosaic mirrors from Melissa's Motifs. They are each a compilation of some very interesting items- antique jewelry, pottery pieces and other found objects are used to create these fascinating, one-of-a-kind works of art.

We have also received work from father/daughter artist team Craig and Madeline Carey. What can I say-- they are just fun. They are colorful and creative. We've got alligator mirrors, mirrors with birds and a terrific wall sconse (pictured) .

Birdie and Fowler

Birdie and Fowler have really done it this time! We we're putting out all of the pottery for our big Pottery by the Pound Sale, and Birdie and Fowler got curious! They wanted to see how much 20 pounds of pottery really is. And they sure do love to send fish bakers as gifts to their family. So they started piling it up, looking like little ants on top of a big pottery anthill, until the scale tipped and Fowler lost his balance, crashed into Birdie, and whole pile turned into a fish baker avalanche!

Recipe of the Month:
Pebble Salad

A healthy and hearty salad fits perfect into summer gatherings and any Follette Bowl!

1 6oz. pkg of rice prepared according to the package directions.
1 12oz. can of shoe peg corn
2 medium carrots, chopped
green onion
fresh parsley

Dressing:
1/4 Cup lemon juice
1/4 Cup olive oil
1 clove of garlic, chopped
1/2 tsp dillweed
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 Cup sunflower seeds
1/3 Cup slivered almonds, toasted

Mix up dressing ingredients and toss with the rest of ingredients.
Chill.
